Prayers and $ Collection for a Liver Transplant for Mizan!

Mizan and Eman Raheem have been members of our Azure group for many years. They have given our group many blessings, and supported many others who have had a hard time. This is their turn, for a blessing. Please send prayers, love, and $ for a liver transplant their way! Please spread around to your friends!!!

Dear Friend,

Mizan Raheem is fighting for his life.

In 2008, he was diagnosed with a life-threatening liver disease, and he learned he was suffering from liver cancer in 2014. Doctors say a liver transplant is critical to his survival. Together, he and his wife, Eman, have five children, and he is incredibly thankful for their love and support. He loves spending time with his family, and he enjoys taking walks, reading, meditating and practicing qigong. After receiving his transplant, he looks forward to freedom from liver disease and all the complications that accompany it. But right now, he needs your help.

Unfortunately, Mizan’s hope for a new life comes at a very high price.

The average liver transplant costs approximately $575,000. And that’s only the beginning. Even with health insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, he faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they’re as critical to his survival as the transplant itself.

When he receives his transplant, Mizan must temporarily relocate 170 miles from home to be near the hospital for at least three months during recovery, incurring substantial expenses for travel, food and lodging. While he is thankful to still be able to work, he has missed a great deal of time due to traveling for doctors’ appointments, adding to the financial strain.

What if your life depended on the compassion and generosity of others?

The National Foundation for Transplants (NFT) is working with volunteers and supporters to help relieve the growing burden of expenses for Mizan. NFT has been assisting transplant patients with fundraising support for more than 30 years. Your gift—of $25, $50, $100 or more—will enable NFT to provide Mizan with the financial support he desperately needs.

You can help by visiting http://patients.transplants.org/mizanraheem to make a tax-deductible donation to NFT in his honor.

If you have any questions about NFT, feel free to contact the staff at 800-489-3863.

Many Thanks!

Azure Ordering and Delivery CHANGES…please take note!!!

Happy Day All!

Please note, we have some MASSIVE CHANGES that I just found out about!

Our Azure order cut-off is on a new day, this coming Tuesday, April 28th at 4PM with our delivery the following Friday, May 1st. Azure has NO projected delivery time for Friday, May 1st for our group. This leaves us in a unexpected situation. Because I don’t know what will happen with this new route change, I am asking everyone to please NOT place an order unless you can COMMIT to picking up your order on the fly on Friday, as soon as you receive notification. I will be heading into my teaching days right after Azure, and going out of town, and will not be available for pickups later. So, if you can meet the truck or come immediately after, please feel free to place your Azure order!

I am sorry for the last minute change, but no notification came either to our drop point or to our Driver either. 😦 We will have to make do! 🙂

THANK YOU ALL for the immense amount of food, clothing, and consumables collected for our Share Shelter Donation! I did not get a chance to thank everyone personally who donated, and some donated anonymously too, but THANK YOU! Let’s keep it up, clean our homes and share usuable things with others!!!! As always, shelter donations can be left on my front doorstep as well, no need to order anything to donate!!!

Our Planting Love Apprenticeships are in progress. We are no longer accepting students for the 2015 year, but are accepting students for the 2016 Apprenticeship Year for Planting Love, Red Cedar Love and Community Herbalist Love Apprenticeships! For the 2017 year, we are working on a plan to offer partial apprenticeship scholarships for those in need, and an additional fourth program offering…so stay tuned!
Serendipity Plant Lore School of Ethnobotanical Studies Herbal and Wild Foods Apprenticeships interviews are happening NOW for the 2016 year! These 9 and 10 month programs cover wild foods foraging, ecosystem stewardship, survival skills, mushroom foraging, making herbal medicines, with programs moving into deeper levels of healing processes, working with various conditions, prevention, mid-wifery herbs and death-wifery herbs. Working within a very old folk tradition of my family, coupled with observation and science, we learn to weave our own healing tapestries, expanding them with our work with others. Learning and having hands on experiences along side me, a practicing Community Herbalist, we have experiences together with the healing processes and transitions of life. To be added to the Apprenticeship email list and/or to set up an interview, send an email to lemonlotus@gmail.com. If you feel inspired, please share with your families and communities.

Important Announcement: Calling out to all those who have long standing items at my house and orders that need to be picked up…please help us to keep our home organized and open for herbal healing! Between teaching and herbal care giving, nearly full time, we need to make space for this Spring’s activities! After awhile, I find many bits of money owed add up, and many items that do not belong to us are needing care and storage in our possession. Sometimes, this extra responsibility gets shifted to my son’s, as we have to keep track of orders and items, and bits of money floating in the community. Thank you for helping us with this clearing and catching up project!
Duck and Chicken Eggs! Duck Eggs from the Urban Snail Farm. Preorder now!  $6 a dozen, $3 a half dozen. Benjamin’s Organic Egg Shoppe may or may not have extra eggs this Azure pickup day, so we’ll set them out if we’ve got ’em!
