Undermining Livlihood of the Common People!

Thanks to a friend for sending this very good article. More to contemplate on the issue of GMO’s and what lies before us

“As indigenous corn varieties lose their ability to produce in southern Mexico, yields will decrease and the campesinos‚Äô livelihood will be undermined. The natural evolution of new corn varieties is also threatened due to this pollution.”

Think about this, and when you read slick adds that sweet talk you into giving up your seed and your seed saving skills for some “temporary” higher yields with expensive chemicals and inputs, please take a moment to consider what you are doing with your own food¬†sovereignty and food liberty.

I know one thing, most wars in history have been over who controls food. Food is a right of the people, seeds are given to humanity inside and outside of us to care for, the next generation. Consider wisely, developed nations have as many problems as undeveloped nations…we just hide ours in this country to sell to others an idea that is not working out and has costly consequences.

As if the Farmer Suicides in India isn’t cause enough. Loss of Food Liberty, loss of Food Diversity is at stake.

Who’s Funding Yes on I-522, and Who’s Funding No on I-522?

Clarity, dizzying, dazzling clarity. When organizations say yes or no, please realize where their interests and funding is coming from, and make a decision from awareness!

No matter how large or how small, I will always vote for an increase in disclosure, an increase in truth, honesty and love. I’d rather just stay with small producers outside the system anyway, but even they must know FOR SURE where their seeds are coming from…without disclosure about GMO’s, truth is at a loss.

Truth is lovely! Access to truth gets the ball rolling for more access to truth. ūüôā Then we know. People’s Food stays with the People!!!

The Pushback Against Truth In Disclosure Initiative Is Flimsy and Unethical!

Why should I, as an Herbalist, be concerned about the upcoming initiative in Washington State? Simply, in the pursuit of truth and disclosure. I’m one of those rare old birds who believes in Democracy and Truth, Love and Well Being. Initiatives are nothing more than grassroots proposals for new legislation. Before paranoid fantasies get carried too far afield through the mechanisms of¬†sophisticated thought reform, let us just understand WHAT an initiative is in the first place, then PONDER why so many organizations that benefit from keeping everything hidden, and status quo, are so INVESTED in their machines of persuasion!¬†OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Many organizations that have direct funding and links with Monsanto are publishing many untruths in the bid to sway minds about why voting for GMO labeling will tear apart farming and health as we know it (which, in the US, are both diminishing rapidly, if we do not take steps now). One of the most common pieces of propaganda, is that Initiative I-522 is poorly written, so therefore, people should take moral high ground and not vote on it.  I would agree myself, that it is poorly written, but I also know it is a start in the direction of sorting out labeling, and disclosing truth of origin on food labels. An initiative, is, after-all  a grassroots proposal that introduces an idea, such as truth in disclosure, to the legislature.

I believe my own individual responsibility is at stake without a truth in disclosure labeling about GMO’s, as I have no choice in the way the system is currently operating, which is affecting so much of the food on my plate.

Basically, all initiatives are flawed by the time they get to the voters, as the purpose of an initiative is to create a spark of motivation in a specific direction. Show me something perfectly written and executed in any other Initiative! That argument is a way to drag one’s feet in the mud. Initiatives are a form of direct democracy. It’s a starting point that diverges from the current norm that can be worked on, instead of inaction, keeping things the way they are without disclosure. I will always vote for transparency, right to know information. Let people decide from there. This initiative is, in its essence, not about GMO’s and their proven or unproven value, it really is about disclosure. Voting for the right to know. It is UNFORTUNATE the exclusions written in this initiative, but that can always be worked on. Having honest disclosure, whether in a small step, or a large action is always a step in the way of truth. Looked at from this perspective, whether people are for or against, at least there is truth to be working from.

~At least there is truth to be working from~

One of the issues that has also been brought up, is that this would put trial lawyers onto farmers,¬†suing¬†them left and right. I am sorry, but Monsanto has been¬†suing¬†farmers left and right, with trial lawyers, currently. Any other information to sway the argument this way or that is patently false. Monsanto is funding this campaign that the¬†initiative¬†is written poorly. Which is a counter stroke that benefits this corporation, as they would rather “provide pre-made laboratory choices” than be responsible and truthful, and have sincere truth in labeling. The thought seed, that this labeling law in Washington will open all farmers to being sued is both true, and untrue. Responsibility is a dangerous thing when it comes hawking back on one’s heels. Monsanto’s the one doing the suing! How is that for ironic?

I Am Not Political, But I Eat, and Eating Is Now Political!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAAs we Washingtonians are debating a new GMO (genetically modified organisms) food labeling law in our state, our right to know what’s in our food by being properly labeled, consider this for a moment. Has our government failed to protect our seeds, children and citizenry? You bet. I suggest more people participate in our communities and government, whether voting by ballot, by food dollar, getting involved in the political process, or getting involved in your own self development and living consciously, conscientiously from a place of conscious decision and follow through. Perhaps you grow your own food, or buy food from your neighbor’s garden or local farmer that you take the time to get to know. You may take the time to cook your food, infusing it with love and blessing, carefully choosing the ingredients and sources. There is nothing more primary in our lives than food, water, air, shelter and love. Consider, a global seed producer that is the world’s largest chemical giant, tinkering with young science, with persuasive slogans for a buck with zero liability. Then think about, how, in ones own individual life, how ones everyday choices may be shaping this kind of world we are now living in. Then, maybe, we come to understand how IMPORTANT each and every unique person is, their day to day choices combined, their power manifested, in even the smallest of ways. The health of our forests, our water, our food, our farmers, our neighbors, and us, our future generations of all beings, depend on our own consciousness today! Instead of living ones life with a “what if”, what if we all live from the place of connection and understanding, from our small families building to understanding the greater family of life?

See, Hungary depends on her food and seeds, wars may come and go, politics may come and go, but in the end, it is people, their children, and their seeds. It’s devastating the extreme measures that are having to be taken against a global corporation, but this is not something that anyone can be neutral about. Once you’re aware, you are aware. I am not against technology that has been studied and refined, but releasing technology into the environment that cross breeds with other plants while in its own state of unrefined development, and further, see how quickly seed companies disappear to avoid liability? NO ONE is taking responsibility, the technology is NOT feeding the world as slogans promise, nor keeping farmers making a livable wage, and there is a war on for seeds, our genetic history, diversity and program banks of bio-regional adaptability. Just about every war in history was fought over food and water. Controlling food, one controls the world. I’m asking each and every person to put the food back into OUR hands, the peasants, where it belongs!OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Saving THE Earth Isn’t Quite Helpful…

The climate is changing (definitely, everyone who grows anything can tap into that seeing). The air is murkier and growing more toxic. The soil more stripped down. The water, polluted. Radiation at unprecedented levels from man-made ideas. Less and less wild plants, wild forests and wild animals.

There seems to be, amongst many of the general populace, a Great Forgetting. What is forgotten is LIFE. The life of all, just completely forgotten. In a drive for progress and growing economies based on anti-life principles, we’re endangering our whole human community, and many other close communities.

I wonder, who doesn’t feel the devastation of multitudes of beings in a ruined old-growth forest, in which we have so little of anymore? Who doesn’t feel for all the animals, or the future generations of beings, great and small? Is there a way to “save” the environment? “Save” the earth?

I do NOT believe so! We will not “save” *THE* for anything, whether it be *the* environment or what we name Earth. As long as we think we’re “saving” something, we betray ourselves, we betray our home. For, if it is a “The”, than it isn’t ALIVE with SOUL. To know where we come from, where we are, lungs that actually do need fresh air, local food to eat, living around and living in and on HER, where did the “Saving The” come from? How about a “thank you” instead? A declaration and¬†behavior of respect?

A description of a mentality, from far, far away. The sort of mentality that designs¬†experiments¬†moving DNA around in lifeforms like they are beings made of cardboard, with no regard to the¬†unique nature of each Being. Experiments, culture removal, humans and other beings put in petri dishes. After a certain amount of manipulation, it seems the Humans themselves have forgotten where they originate from, where they live every moment of the day! They left off the brotherhood and sisterhood of other Beings, and viewed the world from a far away from life angle lens. “Saving THE” or “Saving Ourselves and Fellow Beings”. “Manipulation Of” or “Reciprocity” with our environment. Believe me, she is part of us, no matter what we trick ourselves into thinking! We are all certainly a part of the land and reflect that in our relationship with one another.

Herbalism is an ancient path of 40,000 years and counting! For everything, there is something, and for every beautiful experience, there is even deeper beauty. This is the essence of communion, bio-regionalism, of the Life of Herbs. The life of Herbs as Beings. Our bodies as Beings. Love being the stamp of the Creator. Love and Life.

Next time you’re thinking about what you can do to “save” the environment, go contemplate in your backyard/balcony/window sill/community garden, and while you tend, love what you grow. That Spirit of Abundance will carry the human race further, and be beneficial for the non-human communities. That simple state will bring a reduction of fossil fuel/foreign energy needs, and will produce¬†sustenance, both of the Spiritual and Material kinds!!! Health is¬†reciprocal!!!
